The Bendix 801869 uses a magnetic reset function to perform supported diagnostic operations. Holding a magnet over the center of the unit for less than six seconds initiates diagnostic trouble code clearing. Holding the magnet for more than six seconds but less than 30 seconds initiates the ABS self-configuration command on compatible controllers.
For older vehicles equipped with 6-pin J1587 diagnostic connections, the Bendix 801872 adapter cable may be required. Bendix 802229 is the corresponding 9-pin adapter cable. These accessories are sold separately unless specifically included with the unit.
Bendix discontinued the original 801869 and identified K101596 as its replacement. Newer RDU versions provide additional controller compatibility, including EC-80 support. The original 801869 should not be assumed to support newer EC-80 ABS controllers.
Important product distinction: Bendix 801869 is the original standalone RDU diagnostic unit, not a complete cable kit. The original Bendix kit numbers were 802435, which included the RDU and 6-pin adapter, and 802436, which included the RDU and 9-pin adapter. Bendix officially discontinued 801869 in 2013, replacing it with K101596.
Before ordering, verify compatibility with the vehicle's Bendix ABS controller and diagnostic connector. This tool is designed for compatible Bendix tractor-based ABS systems and is not a universal diagnostic scanner or a trailer TRDU.
