The Bendix 5005037 AD-9 Air Dryer Major Purge Valve Assembly Kit is a genuine Bendix service kit designed to rebuild the air portion of the purge valve housing on Bendix AD-9 air dryers.
The purge valve is responsible for exhausting collected moisture, oil, and contaminants from the air dryer during the purge cycle. When the purge valve becomes worn, contaminated, or begins to stick, the air dryer may leak air, purge improperly, or become more susceptible to freeze-up in cold weather.
Bendix identifies 5005037 as the hard-seat purge valve housing maintenance kit for the AD-9. It contains the components needed to rebuild the pneumatic portion of the purge valve housing; the heater and thermostat are not included.
The 5005037 kit was introduced as an upgraded replacement for the older 5004336 maintenance kit. Bendix revised the purge-valve sealing design to improve resistance to freeze-ups and reduce mechanical sticking of the purge piston.
Unlike the Bendix 5005893 soft-seat kit, the 5005037 uses a hard-seat piston design. Aftermarket catalogs also identify it specifically for Bendix AD-9 dryers and as a hard-seat purge valve kit.
